CAIRO, April 7 (Reuter) - Egypt expressed great sorrow on Thursday for
the deaths of President Juvenal Habyarimana of Rwanda and Cyprien
Ntaryamira of Burundi and urged the people of both countries to exert
maximum restraint.

In these difficult circumtances President Hosni Mubarak expresses his
condolences to the governments and people of Burundi and Rwanda. All
the parties must exert maximum restraint in order to overcome this
crisis peacefully,
a foreign ministry statement said.

In view of the latest developments in the two brotherly countries,
Egypt, as head of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), is in
contact with the OAU secretary-general to see what it can do to
preserve stability in the two countries,
it added.

The two presidents were killed when their plane was hit by at least two
rockets fired by unidentified attackers as it approached the Rwandan
capital of Kigali.
