DAR ES SALAAM, July 9 (AFP) - Tanzanian President Ali Hassan Mwinyi said late Wednesday that his country would continue to help the Rwandan government in its drive to resolve its conflict with rebels.

A statement issued by the president's office after he held talks with visiting Rwandan Prime Minister Dismas Nsengiyaremye quoted Mwinyi as saying Tanzania was impressed by the Rwandan government's peace initiatives in the conflict with the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF).

The front has been waging a guerrilla war against President Juvenal Habyarimana since October 1990.

Rwandan government representatives and those from RPF are scheduled to meet in the northeastern Tanzanian town of Arusha for a fresh round of peace talks on Friday.

Officials said Nsengiyaremye, who will lead his government's delegation to the Arusha talks, would also use his visit here to outline Rwandan official stand on the conflict to Tanzanian authorities.

The current Organisation of African Unity (OAU) chairman, President Abdou Diouf of Senegal, will chair the talks.

Representatives from Tanzania, Uganda, Zaire and Burundi are also expected to attend the meeting.

Nsengiyaremye told Mwinyi that Rwandan refugees in Tanzanian wishing to return home can do so without fear.
