Abstract
- People are still dying in refugee camps: UNICEF is advancing 50,000 deaths in 15 days. Humanitarian associations like the military estimate the toll exaggerated and evoke 20,000 victims. The French army relentlessly buries the victims.
- The High Commissioner for Refugees, which coordinates the resources of governments and humanitarian organizations, has issued a signal of hope. Sadako Ogata, "United Nations High Commissioner": "We thought for a while that we were never going to overcome this. And I am very happy at last to see that the organized efforts to face this human disaster are on the way to achieve this".
- In terms of health, the UNHCR notes that cholera is decreasing. But now the dysentery is on the rise.
- The return of the refugees remains the major concern: 2,500 to 3,000 Rwandans crossed the two border posts in Goma yesterday. A very low figure compared to the 890,000 refugees estimated today. The fear of the RPF remains very important. Also, for good information in the camps, a humanitarian radio station with distribution of transistors should be launched in the coming days.
