De nouvelles tensions dans l'est du Zaïre viennent s'ajouter aux menaces de déstabilisation qui pèsent sur la région des Grands Lacs, en Afrique centrale, déjà troublée depuis deux ans par les rivalités politico-ethniques entre Tutsis et Hutus au Burundi et au Rwanda.

In his book Le Monde, un contre-pouvoir? (ed. L'Esprit frappeur, October 1999, p. 112), Jean-Paul Gouteux notes that the title of this article by Jean Hélène " expresses the opposite of its content. It is in fact about the ethnic cleansing carried out against the Banyamulenge, Zairian Tutsi from South Kivu. This title therefore seems to mechanically resume the usual ideology of victimization of the Hutu, even though the genocide of the Tutsi was continuing in Zaire and this article gave exact information about it. Is this an editorial error? In this context, such an error is not accidental but revealing. In any case, this made incomprehensible one of the rare articles informing about the crimes of which the Tutsi were victims in the former Zaire, in 1995-1996".
