Abstract
- In Rwanda, about forty men, the rearguard of the French forces who had evacuated our residents, will leave at noon. In the capital Kigali, it was believed that the two opposing sides would meet for the first time, to try to conclude a truce. But nothing is certain.
- Leave Kigali as quickly as possible, escape the attacks of certain soldiers of the government army, who have become hysterical. Belgian soldiers had to open fire yesterday [April 13] to protect foreign nationals being evacuated to the airport. Now there are only a handful of Belgians and French people who have chosen to stay in the Rwandan capital at all costs.
- Access to the city is almost impossible, the bulk of the rebels of the Patriotic Front of Rwanda are waiting at the gates of Kigali until the evacuations of foreigners have been completed to go on the offensive. The government army still controls the center of the city, the southern suburbs and the airport. Kigali lives in terror: the Hutu in turn fear being massacred by the Tutsi rebels in retaliation for the carnage of the previous days which left thousands dead.
- These Tutsi refugees in a hospital are survivors. For how much longer ? These Belgian soldiers will leave very quickly, taking with them only 18 foreign nationals.
- The United Nations, which is trying to bring the adversaries to negotiate, plans to withdraw its 2,500 blue helmets from Rwanda.
