- In Rwanda, RPF fighters took Ruhengeri, the main town in the north of the country, last night [July 13]. Tens of thousands of refugees - 200,000 according to the latest estimates - have fled to Zaire. An uninterrupted flow that has invaded the city of Goma since last night.
- It was gusts of Kalashnikov that woke up the Zairian city of Goma this morning. Origin: the border. It is seven in the morning and already the main street is invaded by the crowd. A crowd that sleeps with the children, the mattresses, the basins.
- It was from a small border post that the gusts fired in the air came. The guards wanted to channel towards the great barrier of the official customs this interminable and panicked flow which has passed since dawn. Once the scramble is over, the families find themselves on the other side, but they don't know what to do.
- It was the fighting around Ruhengeri and the rumors of the fall of a military post several kilometers from here that precipitated the rout of recent days. It is now the exodus.
- With the rapid advance of the Rwandan Patriotic Front, an unprecedented flood is sweeping over Zaire. Between 500,000 and 800,000 refugees are expected at the border in the hours and days to come. People who have almost nothing that they will now have to welcome and help.
- So there will be a terrible humanitarian drama on the Zaire border. France presented to the UN Security Council a draft declaration calling for an immediate and prior ceasefire as well as the resumption of the political process and the mobilization of all efforts in favor of the population.
- She also indicated that she did not want the Rwandan interim government, currently based in the north-west of the country, to withdraw to its humanitarian zone located in the south-west.
- The Prime Minister designate of the next Rwandan government arrived in Kigali after a three-month exile. He had left the country the day after the President's death. He is also Hutu.
