Abstract
- In Rwanda the UN envoy has started his talks and obtained a promise from the government, like the rebels, to seek a political solution to the civil war which has already claimed 500,000 lives since the beginning of last month.
- The testimonies speak of the fighting of recent days but especially of the fear caused by the advance of the troops of the Patriotic Front. There would be new massacres, this time committed by the RPF.
- In Kigali, the streets are almost deserted, with the exception of the soldiers but especially the militias who hold the roadblocks with grenades and machetes. We spend about fifty. We are lucky to be French.
- Meanwhile in Geneva, several countries demanded before the UN Commission on Human Rights the punishment of the perpetrators of the massacres and international action to put an end to the killings. It was Lucette Michaux-Chevry who represented France.
