Abstract
- In Goma an orphanage run by an association based in Brittany has taken in babies from Nyundo in Rwanda.
- François Léotard visited the Nyarushishi refugee camp in southern Rwanda. 8,000 Tutsis fled the massacres and settled here.
- 1,000 French soldiers in all should settle on Rwandan territory. There are currently less than 300. They are approaching the front line a little closer every day [in the direction of Bisesero].
- François Léotard: "The progress of the forces continues to be made. In one week we are now 1,500, here, in Zaire and in Rwanda. The French forces which are here have already saved many people. And their mere presence deters the potential aggressors. We need other countries, African of course, but also European. This is why France is pursuing, through its diplomacy, this appeal to the international community. […] We have always said that we We wanted to keep in touch with each of the factions. And that's very important to show our determination not to interfere within the conflict itself. Everyone must understand this: those who fight, those who massacre and those who plan to dominate this country when they are in the minority. Both must understand that our only objective is first to save human lives, then to restore political dialogue. […] For the moment it is not our intention to go as far as Kigali. The means that we are implementing are currently still very limited. And we cannot alone accomplish all the missions that would be necessary. This challenge is immense. And only the international community can help us solve it. […] We have always said that Operation Turquoise should remain within a limited period. The French government wants it. We are making every effort to ensure that at least part of the United Nations force can come in the meantime".
- The former commander of the GIGN Paul Barril claims to have the elements which would make it possible to identify the perpetrators of the attack which cost the lives of the Rwandan and Burundian Presidents on April 6, and in particular the Falcon-50 black box. However, after examining the images of the metal part, Dassault engineers declared that this black box is an Omega antenna used for radio navigation. By no means a voice recorder, commonly called a black box. As for the numbers, they do not tell whether or not it is the presidential plane.
- The mission of the former captain is broader since he is responsible for finding the perpetrators and the sponsors of the attack which caused the death of President Habyarimana. A mission entrusted to him by the widow of the Rwandan President who denies any intervention by the Elysee in the choice of Paul Barril to lead this investigation.
- And this is how the former super-gendarme reappears, whose name evokes troubled affairs in France. An appearance all the more surprising given that even before the start of an investigation that he calls for, Paul Barril accuses the RPF of being at the origin of a plot against Rwanda. Accusation which does not seem to be overly moved by the representative of the RPF in France, François Rutayisire.
