- In Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, resumption of deadly fighting between government forces and the Rwandan Patriotic Front. Two shells hit the premises of the International Committee of the Red Cross this morning, killing two Rwandan employees. These shells exploded within the walls of a hospital in Kigali.
- God, this little boy is proud to sing this nursery rhyme to us in the middle of hell. He learned it at school. An almost unusual nursery rhyme among cries of suffering and war songs. Like this child, there are dozens, often orphans, crowded with adults in this hospital in Kigali. Precarious refuge caught between two fires. Here you never know if you'll be alive in the next hour.
- The International Committee of the Red Cross tries in extremely difficult conditions to treat 250 wounded. The massacres are far from over. Philippe Gaillard, head of the ICRC delegation: "Here it's a bit of a haven of peace for the moment despite Stalin's orders which pass over the roofs of the hospital and the delegation! The two parties know where we are. The two parties promised us that neither the delegation nor the ICRC hospital would be affected. They nevertheless said that he sometimes had shooting errors and that we were not at the safe from such errors!".
- Errors do not forgive: a shell fell this morning on the hospital. Two dead, several injured. But in the middle of this slaughter, life does not want to abdicate. And the newborns receive surprising first names: one is called "Geneva", the other "Lausanne"; a way for mothers to thank Red Cross members for their dedication.
